We all know in Rio Paralympics Games 2016, Mariyappan Thangavelu won the gold medal in high jump T-42 event. Name of the athlete is Varun Singh Bhati who won bronze medal. He recorded his best jump of 1.86 metres to get the third position in the event.
About Varun Singh Bhati:
Varun Singh Bhati was born in Jamalpur village. He is disabled from a polio attack in his childhood. The polio made his left leg non-functional. His father is the sarpanch of Jamalpur and his mother is a housewife. The nature of his handicap is known as Poliomyelitis.

Varun’s family and school gave him the encouragement and strength to fulfill his dream of becoming an athlete. He managed to achieve the right balance in education and sports, to make great progress in both. He competed on many occasions with able-bodied persons and has been consistently getting better.
Completed his schooling from the St. Josephs School in Noida the athlete is currently pursuing Mathematics Honours from Delhi University. He has given the perfect answer to the critics who deteriorated him with their remarks. 2014 China Open Athletics Championship was the turning point of his career. He won his first international gold medals ever in the event.
Bhati has stated that his strong will power and hard work helped him to see the success. He used to play basketball in his early days and with the sport he made his transition to high jump. His dedication made to rank number two and has an Asian record to his name. The work and achievements are a perfect example of stating that nothing can stop you.
